Kids Learn Hindi with Bollywood Baby

Worthy effort that could potentially become something great
All at once uniquely Indian and yet not, the DVD Bollywood Baby offers parents a fun alternative to the multitude of Baby Einstein and other such DVDs on the market for young children. The simple story follows Choti Maya, the little girl in the middle of preparations for her birthday, and her three friends comprised of a monkey ("Babloo Bandar"), an elephant ("Hathi Raja"), and a lion ("Sher Singh"). All three of Choti Maya's animal friends have certain colors they like, and they decide to present her with birthday gifts corresponding to their favorite colors. The story ends when all three friends arrive at Choti Maya's house for the party and the celebration commences.

Bollywood Baby offers viewers a familiar concept: puppets and/or marionette-type characters using songs and other tools to teach children. Wow - really good music, lots of fun!
Because I'm a father, I watch a lot of kids stuff, and usually find it (especially the lyrics) kind of dumb... My kids might not mind hearing the words "happy" and "fun" over and over again, but for me it gets kind of mind-numbing. But I really enjoyed the musical numbers in this one.

The music was catchy and the lyrics were clever. My kids and I have been going around singing a few of the tunes, which stuck in our heads after just the first viewing. It's also a really colorful and vibrant story, with a nice, sincere message.

I'd definitely recommend it if you've got kids anywhere in the 3-5 range.

Kids can't get enough!
I have a 3 year old and a one year old and this is one show that holds both of their attention with equal fervor! It is too cute hearing my son ask for "Bollywood Baby" and saying the character names over and over. Did I mention we bought the DVD yesterday and I have already gotten multiple requests from them both!?! My husband is of Indian heritage and although our family is not in touch with the culture, it is important for me that my children know about the background that they come from. This DVD offers that unique insight but also appeals to the masses as this video is one of the first exposures to Indian culture produced just for children that I have seen. As a mom, ultimately you have to be able the tolerate what your children are watching because whether it not we like it, we will hear it over and over! Thankfully, the music and storyline from "Bollywood Baby" are fun for me too and I alread find myself singing the songs! In today's interconnected world, this DVD is great...
